BISYOC 2017 took place at Moor Park School, near Ludlow, United Kingdom, from Wednesday 2nd August 2017 to Monday 14th August 2017. Moor Park is situated in a rural area in the county of Shropshire, surrounded by open fields and woodlands. It is close to the historic market town of Ludlow with its 11th Century castle and many fine Tudor buildings.
The BISYOC programme included the usual mix of music-making and cultural exchange activities, and participants performed public concerts at the beautiful venues of St Laurence's Church, Ludlow, St Andrew's Church in the town of Presteigne, and at the spectacular Leominster Priory.
The Orchestral Repertoire for 2017 was:
Borodin Polovtsian Dances
Tchaikovsky Symphony No 6
Delius A Walk to the Paradise Garden
Adams A Short Ride in a Fast Machine
All rehearsals are in English. They include full orchestral tutti and instrumental section rehearsals with our international team of specialist tutors. Meet the Tutor Team for 2017
In addition, music sessions include opportunities to participate in chamber music and practical creative music workshops to develop and extend musicianship skills
This daily workshop session offers a different sort of musical opportunity from everything else at BISYOC. Instead of working from a score written by someone else, the workshop begins from a starting point of playing instruments creatively to explore rhythm, melody, harmony, colour, texture and dynamics. Participants learn how to create their own musical ideas and record them at the end of the first session. In the next three sessions they play with the material you have created and turn it into a group composition. The last two sessions are for preparing a performance of the new group piece. The process has inspired many previous participants into developing their own compositions individually later.
You do not have to write down the music and it doesn’t take any more time from you than your attendance at all the sessions.
The ideal size for this workshop is between eight and twelve people so it is important to register your interest in advance.
As an alternative to taking part in the workshop, some participants choose the option of daily chamber music. Participants study in small groups and work towards extending your musicianship skills and improving your ability to communicate with other musicians. Selected groups may have the opportunity to participate in a chamber music performance during the Exchange. One is a concert in a church, and performances also take place during the mealtimes.
Cultural Exchange is a major part of the programme. As well as having opportunities to see the town of Ludlow and places of interest in the region, you will take part in group exchange activities every day. Participants cook for each other at International Food Night, teach dances from each country at International Dance Night, and even have a chance to use voices at International Singing Contest (also known as BISYOC “Eurovision”).
Moor Park School has facilities for a wide range of activities including football, tennis, swimming in a heated indoor pool and hiking. In case of rain there are also indoor games including snooker and table tennis. There are several student areas available for social time and relaxation.
All participants stay on-site in rooms in or near the main building. All meals and accommodation are included in the price.
The contribution per participant is EUR 595.00 which includes all meals, accommodation, music activities and cultural exchange activities.
