BISYOC International Tutors' Concert 2017

Friday 4th August 2017 at 13:00 | Ludlow Assembly Rooms
Bisyoc tutors.lo res

A Concert of Chamber Music by the International Team of Tutors from BISYOC.

Programme Includes:

Stravinsky Pulcinella Suite
Jean-Michel Damase Labyrinthe Pour Clarinette et Harpe
Britten Phantasy Quartet for oboe, violin, viola and cello
Additional works by Bruch, Ginastera and Bousted

For more than 16 years, Ludlow has been a regular location for BISYOC's annual gathering of young musicians from all over Europe and beyond. Together they form a large symphony orchestra and perform throughout the region. In this, the first in the 2017 series of BISYOC concerts, the tutors, all professional performers in their own right, present a varied and attractive programme of chamber music. This year’s ensemble is expanded to include some young members of the orchestra to perform one of Stravinsky’s finest Neo-classical works, Pulcinella, based on the works of 18th Century composers Pergolesi and Gallo.

BISYOC Symphony Orchestra and Choir - Ludlow

Saturday 12th August 2017 at 19:30 | St Laurence's Church, Ludlow
Dsc03490

An international youth orchestra of 90 players combined with a local choir of 60 singers.

Programme:

Adams A Short Ride in a Fast Machine
Lauridsen Sure On This Shining Night
Borodin Polovtsian Dances
Delius A Walk to the Paradise Garden
Tchaikovsky Symphony No 6

BISYOC’s vibrant, energetic orchestra of 85 young players launches this concert with two North American works: John Adams’ joyful and exuberant A Short Ride in a Fast Machine, contrasting with the warmth of Lauridsen’s popular choral work Sure on This Shining Night. The concert will pull us through the tumultuous emotional spectrum of Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, and the colourful and musically vivid world of the Polovtsi, a nomadic tribe who ruled Eastern Europe for 2 centuries from the Danube to the Volta, and gave their name to the popular choral/orchestral work Polovtsian Dances from Borodin’s opera Prince Igor. Delius’ lush interlude A Walk to the Paradise Garden describes beauty in nature, romance and undying love, from an opera scene in which the lovers walk towards an inn where they could dance all night!

Conductors Julian Gibbons, Wayne Jeffrey and Robert Bunting
